Here is the truth. My name is Montree Rung, I have been a personal trainer/ health coach for the past 25+ years. I have been involved in health and fitness all my life. My wife Annmarie took her first yoga class about 10 years ago and she was hooked. She even went on and studied to become a yoga teacher within her first year of practice. I saw a huge positive transformation in her mentally and physically like she was a different person especially with Kundalini yoga added to her practice. In the back of my mind I knew I needed yoga because of all the nagging injuries from not being flexible but I was so intimidated by the whole yoga vibe. My "perception" of yoga scared me. I thought everybody in yoga class would be super flexible, fit and zen. I did not want to look stupid in front of people. I know some of you may think, how can a personal trainer be afraid of yoga?
I eventually built up enough courage to take my first class and I did not even tell my wife about it even-though she is a yoga instructor. My first yoga experience was great. I took a beginners class and I felt relaxed and balanced after a class. Yoga is just what I needed to improve my flexibility, prevent injury from sport activity (tennis) and more importantly, enhance mental clarity. Also as a personal trainer who is obsessed with human anatomy, I knew yoga was just a missing link that we all need to give our mind and body a necessary tune up ...BUT I NEVER WENT BACK TO THAT STUDIO AGAIN!!!
I really did enjoy the class but there was something holding me back from yoga. I gave it another go by visiting a few yoga studios on their special deals and same thing, I enjoy the yoga but did not truly feel comfortable and I thought maybe it was my excuse for just being lazy.
Extreme makeover started in August 2017
So what changed?
One day my wife invited me to one of her classes and I normally would come up with an excuse like I am injured or something lame. But this was a special class for an event she has created for veterans with PTSD. She is a veteran herself along with her brothers so I decided to go to support.
The experience was amazing and all the people in class seem to enjoy the class and gave all positive feedback. The little subtle difference in her class was just what I needed. She did not use any traditional music, we were all rocking out to some classic/modern rock, pop and a little bit of 80's music. Her instructions were all in plain English, easy to understand and follow. She was keeping it real and just having fun. I no longer felt intimidated and now excited to take more classes. I spoke with many of my friends about yoga and asked them if they would start doing yoga and most of them would say no. They have the same perception of yoga as I did. That is the moment that my wife and I knew that we wanted to open a yoga studio to cultivate a community of a non-judgmental environment and encourage people to feel welcomed and comfortable at our studio. We want to create a great vibe at our studio...not just yoga vibe. Yoga is for everyone. That is how REMIX YOGA was born.
